Adventures in Eating: Cheap. Easy. and Healthy

Join me on my quest to dissect the world of eating, learn to make everything from scratch, find a more simple solution to everyday feeding, and to do it all as cheap as I possibly can. Keep in mind that I have no idea what I’m doing, and that I’m attempting to teach myself; mostly through trial and error, mixed with some internet research and advice from friends. About this blog

Cooking from scratch is a great way to save money, eat healthy, and express creativity. It’s also a fabulous way to spend less on entertainment, by involving the whole family. You can enjoy endless quality time with your children, while teaching them important life skills like organizing, planning, reading, measurement, following directions, cleanliness, and being creative. All this comes with a satisfying end result of full tummies and happy taste buds. Life is good, and so if food.

Scratch That: Adventures in Eating Cheap.
I’ve been slowly preparing myself for the soon approaching day when I will be absolutely, undeniably, and agonizingly…House Poor. And I’m super excited about it! Not at all excited about being poor, but loving the idea of having my own house. And, enjoying the opportunity it’s given me to acquire a few necessary skills. It requires learned skills to eat from a budget, cook from scratch, and to make food that is healthy…and to have my family enjoy it, all at the same time.

I don’t have the patience to shop sales or clip coupons, so I have to create a way of living based around every day average prices. I reside somewhere in Utah, just to give you a general idea of the agriculture, societal trends, and cost of living that I have to work with. I am also feeding a family of 6, and my unrealistic monthly grocery budget (including tp, soap, diapers, and the like…) is $500. I already own some handy kitchen gadgets that make my life a little easier, but we’re hoping to scrape together an additional monthly budget of $15 to go toward kitchen gadgets or small appliances.

In my regular posts I’ll likely talk about what I tried that day, and any other topics I think of that I feel would be helpful in Eating Cheap. I’ll try to post all the recipes that I mention, and as many pictures as possible. I am limping along with a 7 year old camera, so I’ll do my best in that department. There will also be a place that I post random tips, as I learn them. I do get bored easy and tend to do things sporadically, so there will be very little rhyme or reason to any of this.

So…this is me…being cheap…as well as experimentally healthy.
